Catch JONESTOWN: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF PEOPLE'S TEMPLE this Friday, October 27th at the Nuart.

On November 18, 1978, over 900 members of Peoples Temple died in the
largest mass suicide/murder in history. What drew so many people across
racial and class lines to the Peoples Temple? And how could such a
diverse group be convinced to commit suicide? Using never-before-seen
archival footage and survivor interviews, director Stanley Nelson and
writer Marcia Smith tell the story of the people who followed preacher
Jim Jones from Indiana to California and finally to the remote jungles
of Guyana, South America, in a misbegotten quest to build an ideal
society and rid the world of injustice.

TRIAD ELECTION. Hong Kong/China. By Johnnie To. CAST Louis Koo, Simon Yam, Nick Cheung, Cheung Siu-fai, Lam Ka-tung. In Johnnie To's follow-up to ELECTION, set two years later, the election starts again. Jimmy (Louis Koo), a 21st century gangster with an MBA, is using the Triads to get on the fast track to financial success; winning the election would consolidate his land deals on the mainland. Unwillingly embarking on a violent campaign, he realizes the Wo Sing hang in the balance of a far greater power. Sat. Nov. 11, 9:30 p.m. Sun. Nov. 12, 3:45 p.m.

ELECTION. Hong Kong/China. By Johnnie To. CAST Simon Yam, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Louis Koo, Nick Cheung, Cheung Siu-fai. Following 2004's double-header of BREAKING NEWS and THROW DOWN, Johnnie To returns with the two-part epic ELECTION. The post-1997 world of Chinese rule means that even the long-established Wo Shing Triad Society must change its ways and think north. But after the brotherhood was fractured by the ruthless grip of Chairman Lok, it was up to the younger generation to lead the way. Jimmy is the perfect candidate: smart and entrepreneurial. Only problem is, Chairman Lok isn't one who gives up power easily. Fri. Nov. 10, 10:00 p.m. Sun. Nov. 12, 1:00 p.m.
